And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6, ESV)

How to resist the devil: Focus on God and devote yourself to him

    Read James 4:1-12

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7).

What Does This Scripture Mean for Us?

What happens in your mind if I say to you, "Don't think about a white elephant"? You immediately picture a white elephant, don't you? You can't help it.

Now what if I say to you, "Picture a pink rose"? Unless you've never seen a rose before or the
color pink, you form an image of a pink rose.

James puts temptation and the devil's work in our lives in the same perspective when he says
FIRST we are to submit to God, THEN we are to resist the devil.

Don't get that mixed up. Just as the old sports cliche says "the best defense is a good offense,"
so, too, the best way to resist the devil is NOT to focus on resisting the devil -- but to focus on devoting ourselves to God!
