Three steps to help you discover God’s will in your life’s situations

Read 2 Timothy 4:1-8

"They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths" (2 Timothy 4:4).

What Does This Scripture Mean for Us?

How do we know, really, what we ought to believe as followers of Jesus? How can we be sure we're walking in the truth and not just chasing a myth??

Life can sometimes be very troublesome. And as a result, knowing and doing God's will for your life isn't always easy, is it? Let me offer a "3-point" test you might find useful for knowing God's will in any particular situation. (No, no. I'm not the "answer man" here to solve all your problems. But this idea generally works pretty well for me, so I thought I'd pass it along.)

1. What does Scripture say? Obviously, the written Word of God has been the number one trustworthy guide throughout the history of God's people. Check here FIRST.

2. What does church history/tradition say? Yeah, I know, a lot of folks think all stuff like church "tradition" is just the "traditions of men" that Jesus often condemned. But, think about this for a minute: Do you really think God would leave his people with NO guidance from the wisdom and
leadership that came before our time? Is it not wisdom to seek the counsel and example of godly men and women who may have struggled with our life's problems before??

3. What does your reason tell you about number 1 and number 2? News flash -- God CREATED that brain nestled between your earlobes. He can and does expect you to carefully, prayerfully
USE IT!

Just some ideas. Take 'em for what you will today!
